Public Works, Swedish Embassy Inspect Village Access Road Projects in Bong County
GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY - Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Community Services-now Acting Minister-Jocelia Taplah on Wednesday led a Delegation to Bong County to inspect ongoing construction works for 14.15 kilometers of Village Access Roads which are also dubbed “Track Roads” in Naama, Jarkai, Gbaita, Wumeh, Gbarngasiaquelleh and Moses Village in Zota and Panta Districts respectively.
The Delegation also comprised Officials of the Swedish Embassy including Mr. Carl-Henrik Jacobsson (Program Officer), Louise Edgren (Comptroller) and Elina Hedman ( Political, Promotion and Communication Officer).
With the help of Community-based Organizations (CBOs), the Village Access Roads link remote villages to large towns; thereby enabling local farmers transport their produce to nearby markets.
Addressing construction issues on the field, Deputy Minister Taplah urged Contractors to expedite the works ahead of the Rainy Season this year.
According to her, the construction of VARs does not only ease the transport of local produce, it also provides a mini source of livelihood for community members, most of whom are women.
The Joint-Inspection Team is also expected to visit other Village Access Roads in Nimba County.
The Project is funded by the Swedish Government and managed by the Liberian-Swedish Access Driven Rural Development Programme (LISA) with Elvis Mensahn serving as Project Director.
